# Imgur links not showing

Evidently imgur has gotten to be a tad popular as shown by a couple of users posting links to photos in imgur. Sadly, the pictures do not show for me. Another odd thing is that the imgur links themselves don’t show even in a new window or tab. I did a search of this site and also other sites discussing this issue on Discourse. Turns out it’s been happening to others elsewhere. I got no joy following their recommendations.
Any idea what’s going on?

I use Proton’s VPN and it blocks Imgur. Not only the linked photos in threads but when I go to Imgur itself, there’s only blank squares where my photos should be.

Interesting. I have the VPN on and I can see those. Imgur must have fixed something. Or Proton did.

I have to use VPN to see any social media from outside of China. On my laptop, I’m using Psiphon, and on my phone I switch between Psiphon and something called V2RayNG, depending on what I’m trying to see. As it turns out, the V2RayNG does show the Imgur photos.
I did do a search online for “HTTP ERROR 429” and the advice was, first, wait and try again, and then “clear all cookies and browsing history, then try again”. Yeah, not going to happen was my response to that advice. Again, evidently, I’m not alone in that reaction.
