The basic flaw in the original post is assuming they don’t already. Also, many immigrants even in the time you’re talking about still kept many of their old customs and foods and tended to congregate together. I know my great grandparents, who immigrated from Romania, knew very little English even when living in the US. They wore the same clothing they had back home. And are you seriously saying that all Jewish immigrants have to convert to christianity in order to be let in? Do the words “Freedom of religion” mean anything to you? ---

The OP’s message to immigrants is so moving and inspirational that it should be framed and displayed in every immigration office in the land. It’s a little long but its key sentiment – which is repeated no less than four times – can be summed up by the final six words, which I will set off here in their own paragraph so that their quiet yet profound eloquence can be fully appreciated: “Go back where you came from.” I think these inspiring words should be put on a bronze plaque and put up on the Statue of Liberty. I understand there’s some drivel there now about the tired and poor and “huddled masses yearning to breathe free” or something. This one is much shorter. ---

I had reached my limit with the proposal for the plaque that said “Immigrants: Go back where you came from!” and might at most have proposed one on the other side that said “Immigrants: Fuck off and die” but the idea of the middle finger that could be seen for miles is just genius! It should of course be brightly lit at night. 😃 ---

My Mom was a teen in the post WWII late 1940s. She told the story of how her American-born but Dutch / German-heritage parents were appalled when she went to the Italian section of Chicago and ate spaghetti at a restaurant. Her Mom’s comment: “You’re not Italian. Why would you want to eat Italian food?! That’s disgusting!” Remember: All true Americans know Italian food is just not American. Nobody who’s a real American should eat it, ever. If the abject idiocy of the OP’s position isn’t obvious by now I can keep going. IMO, falafel \*is \*American food. As is spaghetti, sukiyaki, kimchee, pho, sauerkraut, and borscht. Just to name a few national dishes of countries that we’ve gone to war or all-but-war with during living memory. If that’s how we treat enemies worth actually killing, imagine how much more welcoming we are to our friends.
