He was given much more power than his position would normally hold. The actual chief of the border patrol is the same guy who was there day 1 of the current administration. The chief is also not an impeachable position and not subject to senate approval. ---

Of course that should not stop the ordinary criminal prosecution for his actions. “Should” being the operative word here. ---
