Impromptu pet toys that weren't meant to be pet toys

With one cat a disposable razor placed on the edge of the bathtub was a wonderful thing. Skated across the bottom of the tub with a satisfying clickety sound, then slid up the tub to fly back into play. I was sitting in the living room, wondering “WHAT is that sound?!” I investigated, and put the razor back on the edge of the tub. Nope, back into the tub. I decided that a ball would be better, it would roll, and probably get more lift when it rolled up the edge of the tub. Nope. Not fun.

Our biggest cat is a bit finicky about his treats, and will NOT eat the piece of hot dog we give him. He used to bat it around until he lost interest, then leave it. He has since figured out that the other cats WANT that hot dog, so now he just stares at it until one of the others tries to take it, then he promptly bats them on the head!

Our oldest cat just hates other cats. She growls and hisses and generally talks trash to all of them. (Get out of my yard!!) Every now and then she sees her tail and figures out that it belongs to a cat, and the fight is on. She’ll hiss at it, run up and down stairs, and round and round the furniture trying to get away from it. Sometimes she’ll hold it down and actually bite it. I’m not sure that counts as a toy, because she’s not playing, but still… hilarious to watch!!

Another vote for the milk jug rings. I’d buy a box of them but they’d all end up under the fridge or shoved down the registers within a day.

One of my cats will bring me toys throughout the day, doing that horrible yowling noise, and then spitting them out at my feet. She gets praised, of course, for being such a brave and tireless hunter of stuffed mice.

Of course another cat won’t be outdone and she grabs a huge chunk of mink fur scrap and does the same. Her yowl is the stuff of legends.

One of the best toys ever was an electronic LED dice that turned up in my home somehow. When you rolled it, it would beep and boop with the flashing lights until it would settle on one with yet another beeping noise. Well this thing was the bestest ever to my male cat and he’d walk around with it in his mouth and lose it periodically. About once a year I find it again and the fun begins all over.
