Well, that was my point really. I would imagine they don’t. But they may be obliged to look into the matter anyway. Depends on what the law and their guidelines say, I guess.

I am somewhat sad to report that:

Doctors found a blood clot in Vice President Dick Cheney’s left leg Monday, Cheney’s office said.

The vice president was given blood-thinning medication, which he will need to take for several months, and allowed to return to work, his office said.

I am sad about the portion I bolded. I do not wish specific harm upon him, but a speedy retirement would be wonderful.

BTW: I doubt the Secret Service will waste anytime on Imus.

Look, I don’t think Imus did anything wrong. That’s why I asked the question. But, as **Squink **pointed out, and as the link in the OP suggests, the Secret Service, can be very stupid about such stuff.

I’ve never seen a law enforcement agency with a sense of humor. And rightly so. They can afford one.

Here is theapplicable law.

18 USC Sec. 871 – which reads, in part:

…Whoever knowingly and willfully deposits for conveyance in the mail or for a delivery from any post office or by any letter carrier any letter, paper, writing, print, missive, or document containing any threat to take the life of, to kidnap, or to inflict bodily harm upon the President of the United States, the President-elect, the Vice President or other officer next in the order of succession to the office of President of the United States, or the Vice President-elect, or knowingly and willfully otherwise makes any such threat against the President, President-elect, Vice President or other officer next in the order of succession to the office of President, or Vice President-elect, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both.

I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if Imus gets a visit from the Secret Service, but nothing else.

Cheney’s the awesome combination of diabolical and sneaky. I certainly wouldn’t cross him. No, no, the SS won’t be visiting Imus because that’s too obvious*. Let’s just say that I wouldn’t be too surprised if Imus was subjected to a full body search the next time he wants to board an airline.
