Sure, they’re not going to care about Miley Cyrus. But they’re not going to be incredulous about her, any more than we’re incredulous about sexualized shenanigans of the scantily clad starlets and pop tarts of 1965. Like, remember that one singer who did that one thing that was so shocking and trivial that I have no idea why people cared? Wasn’t that so crazy and stupid that we’re still talking about it 50 years later? You don’t remember what I’m talking about? Me neither. Stupid boring ephemera doesn’t get marveled over 50 years later, it gets forgotten. I mean, maybe people in 2065 will be talking about Miley Cyrus, but not if the only memorable thing she ever did was take off most of her clothes and shake her ass on TV that one time in 2014. ---

We remember Marilyn Monroe, whose greatest achievement was starring in a small number of forgettable movies. (Who can even name the movies she was in without running to Wikipedia or IMDB?) But what I’m saying is this. Today a young woman becomes famous only if she takes her clothes off and does things on TV that would have been illegal a short while ago. Talent plays no part in it. Neither does beauty. (Marilyn Monroe was beautiful; Miley, hideous. (In my opinion.)) It’s a shared assumption that women should have no brains, no self-respect, no ambition beyond dancing on TV in very little clothing. That’s what I think they’ll be incredulous about. Of course I may be wrong, and it may just get worse for the next 50 years. ---
