Oh, as much as I feel for you here–please don’t do this! Vicodin HAS acetominophen in it! You are most likely dosing yourself with too much Tylenol!
Please call your doc and get a script for stronger Vicodin or something else altogether–NEVER take Tylenol (plain) with a med that has Tylenol in it–they reccommend adults take no more than 4gms of Tylenol per day. You can easily take too much doing what you’re doing.
Have you tried Motrin in place of the plain Tylenol? Check with your doc, please.
Tylenol is hell on your liver–and too much can cause permanent damage. I infer from your thread here that you also drink alcohol–yikes.
Sorry to cause a stir, but seriously, don’t mess with Tylenol like that.
Thanks for the heads up, but I did check with the office about Tylenol, and they said it was fine. I don’t know what the hell is in Vicodin, nor do I care. All I know is that it wasn’t working, and in about three days, after I get my splints out, I’m tossing those damned placebos down the toilet. Even in retrospect, I think I’d pass on the crap and take the pain versus having those funky hangovers the next morning. Some medication isn’t worth the paper the prescription its written on . . .
Besides, I have other things that affect my liver that I have to worry about.

My friends Johnny, Jack, Miller, and their pet turkey all tell me I should see someone about it.
Vicodin is a combo drug of Hydromorphone, which IMS, is a synthetic morphine derivative…hence the “hangover”. It usually does a very good job of dealing with mid level pain like yours(outpt surgery, up and about etc).
I wonder about who you talked to at the doc’s office. Most office staff today are NOT licensed health care providers and truly don’t know jack. Now, if you talked to Dr.–I would still be leery. Think aobut it–an adult dose of extra strength Tylenol contains 1 gm of acetiminophen. 4gm/day limit means you have to take that ES every 6 hours, not every four. Add Vicodin in the mix and you shoot your bolt of allowed Tyl pretty fast.
ALOT of meds for pain are mixed with Tylenol. It’s a good idea to read those inserts you get with your Rx. Ask your pharmacist, too, if you are prescribed pain pills and also use Tylenol at home…you would be surprised at the amount of Tylenol in some stuff.
It’s a growing problem and one that is getting more attention. But like all industries, old habits die hard.
I’m glad to hear you’re on the mend Tripler. I hope your splint removal goes better than mine did. After my operation, the surgeon actually left some of the packing way up the back of my nose and then buggered off on holidays. In the end my sister (at that time a student nurse) removed it at home in a flood of blood and goo that was revolting to behold, with me screaming the house down (sounds familiar, I’m sure).
My wife got this surgery ten years ago. She went from having to take two to four Dimetaps every day to never taking one ever again. As an extra bonus, she doesn’t snore anymore.
Ewww, you swallowed it? That’s what the barf bag is for.
But that does remind me of something that happened to me the last time I was seriously sick. My sinuses were completely stuffed so the doc gave me some decongestant. For the first couple of days, nothing. (This is your last chance to stop reading.) Then on the beginning of day three, things started loosening up. I felt an odd sensation at the back of my nasal cavity, and with a loud guttural snort, dislodged the mass down into my throat.
What I spat out was a piece of hardened rubberized phlegm the size of a quarter, and about three times as thick. It was pretty cool actually. I had to resist the urge to play with it.
Well, the splints came out today, and my nose is much, much happier. I’m still sort of clogged up, but hopefully all of that goo will drain out eventually.
Man, you should have seen the stuff he pulled out after he pulled the splints. It was huge! Of course, I saw him roll his eyes when I started poking at it with a probe . . .
But, I’m not bleeding so much, and it feels like I’m starting to drain out quite a bit. I’m not back up to par enough to sing like Ol’ Blue Eyes just yet, but I feel one helluva lot better.

Of all the times I went to the doctor’s office, today was by far, the coolest.
