In A Real Fire Emergency

Yep, bought a scanner in '99 and scanned all my hardcopy pics dating back to when I was about 15, because those pics were easy to slip out of their slots in the photo album. The album from when I was younger than that had all the pics stuck in place on the pages with more permanent means, and I didn’t want to try to peel each and every one of them off to be scanned, so I’m stuck with just a precious one-of-a-kind hardcopy album for those years.

Assuming the fire is in the cooking area of the kitchen and not at the other end of the room with the computer hutch, I’d grab the laptop, and only because of its efficiency- there’s lots of stuff on there and I can cover lots of bases with it. Of course, that’s after making sure my wife and kids are safely outside; I will probably already have my money clip on me. Given the location of the fire it means I probably can’t get to the mudroom where the car keys are, but if the garage door is open- which it is unless it’s the middle of the night- I can double back through the garage & grab the keys.

The fireproof safe in the basement will hopefully still contain whatever important papers we’ll need to start rebuilding our lives.
