In all of N. America, only one stop for the Olympic Torch?

I’m looking forward to reporters poking around China. The Chinese government wants the world’s attention, so lets give it to them, showing warts and all.

You think that the Chinese government is going to allow journalists to wander around the countryside in search of human rights abuses? Or that reporters covering the Olympics are inclined to do so? Or that people in the US at least would do anything other than complain that it’s taking time away from the event coverage?

Yes, it’s not going to be physically possible to prevent all the reporters from wandering about.

Yes, Olympic reporters often do background pieces on the host country.

Other’s apathy is no excuse to ignore problems.

Q: Is there still enough oxygen in the air in Beijing at rush hour to keep a flame lit? :dubious:

I suppose they could have run it through Tibet. If it ever did go out, it could have beeen easily re-lit from a burning monestary or a smoldering corpse…

China doesn’t have to cozy up to the US. There are more stops in Africa-land of the underexploited natural resources. Looking at the map is a good map of China’s geo-political future plans.

Considering what holding the torch is currently doing to anything in a ten-to-twenty mile radius, I’m very glad it’s not coming to Canada right now… :dubious:

(It sucks for the athletes involved in this year’s Olympics, and I feel for them. But China really has to address this issue.)
