You’re the guy everyone wants to talk to at parties, I bet.
@ jz27897292b - Are you being serious? How is it not clear that I’m writing this as a review for people who actually use these apps? If you don’t take cabs or have need for cab replacement apps, then I’m not talking to you. If I wrote a thread about makeup and talked about a shitty brand vs a non shitty brand and said I use department store foundation like a normal person, would you come here to tell me about how you don’t wear makeup? No one gives a shit. I’m not talking to you.
Why would I write a review for someone who doesn’t use or need the product? Go find another thread to start your stupid crusade against whatever it is your panties are twisted about. Jesus.
Do you live in a place where they provide service? Or travel to one where it is?
I don’t use Über a ton, or even often, but they are GREAT when I do.
It’s nice to go to a city and be able to explore the fringes and not have to worry about getting a cab. Some people get rentals, but I hate that - well more the driving and worrying about parking.
I’ve only used it once or twice in my own city, but it is awesome. If there is service - you can always get a ride. When I was younger and before I had a car I’d sometimes wait 2 plus hours for a cab - that is ridiculous. Sure - often you can get a can easily in places like NYC or London, but sometimes it isn’t easy.
For me it works well for places a little outside the core city areas.
still don’t know anyone who’s used them. near as I can tell, the people who extol Uber and Lyft are the same people who fawn over the tech sector as though they can do no wrong. “Oh, it’s a smartphone app? Well, it must be perfect then!!”
^Okay, we’ve got someone who’d like to interrupt a thread comparing two rideshare services to extol his personal beef with anyone who uses a smartphone. Can we all just ignore this irrelevant nonsense and get back to reviewing these apps? Thanks!
I mean, I’ve more or less covered why Lyft needs to get it together. If you have any other reasons why it sucks, or hell, perhaps a defense (?!), let’s hear it.
Ha Ha, smartphone apps. Nobody I know even has fingers.
I don’t know why anybody would bother with fingers. I type all my posts with my nose on an IBM Selectric and post them to Chicago via registered mail.
You know, like a normal person.
Gold star sticker for you, Blank Slate! Thanks for posting, MeanOldLady, I just added the Uber app earlier this week (haven’t used it yet) and was wondering if there was any point to downloading what appears to be their main competition so far, and am pleased to see I can safely skip that.
Some of you may be interested in the February 9th cover article of Time magazine.
If nobody used Uber then there would be no Lyft and there’d be no post.
Seriously some people are just … Damn.
Considering they provided 140 million rides in 2014, there must be quite a few of us.
Really? You need to listen more. I’m in rural Nevada. Two strikes against Uber. I woulsn’t have even clicked on your thread, but I didn’t know what “Lyft” was, and wanted to know. You tossed up the softball, with the “normal person” thing. *Taxis? *Why the fuck would I ever need a taxi? Fuck, I own a tow-dolly to haul my broken shit (usually the Jeep) home if I need to. With one of three trucks, depending on the load!
It is weird. Jumping in some strangers car for a ride? Shit! Sesame street has been telling generations of people not to do this! Sorry, but it is a strange business model.
True. But I’d bet the “average” person in the US has never used Uber.
But, hey! Glad I kickstarted your thread! (Several of my motorcycles also start that way)
Actually, I’m the guy that throws the party. So, yeah. Or at least drink my beer.
It wasn’t a thread till I shat in it. Sorry about that. We obviously live in* far different worlds…*
I only wanted to find out what Lyft was. I’m sorry for ruining this MPSIMS.
Why can’t we have nice things around here? Why does someone ALWAYS have to shit in the pool?
Is *that * really what you’re so upset about? That I used the word normal? Get the fuck over it. I’m comparing two apps that you clearly don’t need, so move on and post in some thread about which pick-up truck is best to drive around the countryside. I don’t know how it could have been any clearer that this is an app comparison thread. Apparently you need something to get your feelings hurt over, and comparing a good app to a terrible one is it for reasons that escape me.
I’m sorry that you live in rural Nevada. Us city folks take cabs and Ubers and whatever from the bar, from the airport, to and from parties. If folks don’t use rideshare apps or taxis because they live in the middle nowhere and no one takes a cab from one farm to the next, maybe they should hush up in threads specifically about them?
Not hard. Or maybe it is for you.
Columbus Ohio checking in. Uber use is very common among people I know here. MOL is accurate and hilarious and the rest of you people suck, except the ones who are participating in the thread like normal people.
I don’t even know anyone that participates in threads. You know, like normal people!
I love my Uber! It’s especially great for those nights out drinking…they make sure I get home safe, drunk and not in jail. Similar in price if not cheaper than a taxi and very, very worth it.
Hey, I said I was sorry. Now I’m especially sorry for all of that.
For you.
I’ve only used UberX which I’ve found to be consistently cheaper than a taxi. Lyft has something similar (Lyft vs Lyft Plus, much like UberX vs Black Car) and their basic service has also been less costly than cabs.
I was initially prompted to download Lyft for the promotion, but I also had the intent of using concurrently with Uber, figuring they were essentially the same thing, but Lyft’s app and service is just so much worse all around. I could even deal with fewer drivers. Hey, if there aren’t any Lyfts around it doesn’t hurt anything - just use Uber instead. But even if they are around, the app is such a pain in the asshole that I don’t see any advantage of using it over Uber, and don’t intend on using it again once my free fares are up. Even if a Lyft is a few minutes faster, I’d rather wait around on an Uber, as their entire outfit is preferable for the reasons listed above.
Get your shit together, Lyft! I want you to be better.
Stop posting in this thread if you don’t have anything worthwhile to contribute to it. It seems obvious to me this thread is about comparing two apps that have to do with getting a ride…so coming in here with things like “Oh, I have my own car” and “I’ve never heard of those things and don’t know who uses them” are pretty much akin to threadshitting.
You’ve said your piece by now, Gatopescado. It’s time to either cease posting in this thread or make a Pit thread with how upset you are over this thread/the OP.
Just report the posts, please, because posts like these seem to bring more hijack, not help end it.
It’s almost as if relying on an unlicensed and illegal taxi company to get around was a bad idea.
In my experience here in Boston, using an actual taxi, driven by someone with a hackney license, is unpleasant at best. Car is dirty, run down, driver is blasting music or talking on his phone the entire time, or (worse) chats with me. (I once had a taxi driver tell me I needed to have children). When I use Uber black car or SUV service I get a really nice car with a livery licensed driver who shuts the hell up and drives. It’s awesome. So when I go to other cities with Uber black cars and SUVs I stick to those and don’t have to explore whether their taxis are as crappy as Boston’s.
