Tonight, approximately one hour ago, Kero died. There are no words to express my grief right now. ☹

Kero was a golden retriever, one of two in our family. We got him from a rescue society a few years ago, along with his ‘brother’ Sam, and tried to give him a good life.

He was without question the most cheerful inhabitant in our house. He loved everyone, even the cat, and he always had a big, goofy smile. You could count on Kero to be wherever people were, especially if they had food, but even without it, he just loved people.

A few days ago, my mother and I went for a walk in the woods with Kero and Sam. We usually allowed one of the dogs to wander while the other one stayed on a leash; this time, it was Kero. He apparently got wind of a deer, and dashed off into the woods. He came back about 10 minutes later, but we think while he was in there he ate something poisonous, since he wasn’t right afterwards.

We didn’t realize how serious it was until tonight. Kero and Sam were let out into their part of the backyard, to go the bathroom and whatever. When my dad came to let them back in, Sam came, but Kero didn’t. He found him lying down and refusing to come in.

An hour later he died.

Please forgive if this isn’t written to perfection. Maybe later I can write this better, but right now I can barely see the screen.

Kero, we’ll miss you.

I forgot to say… Kero was the youngest of both humans and animals in our family. Since he was a rescue dog, we don’t know for sure, but he was no more than 5, and probably less.

-the4thmooncat, still ☹

{{{the4thmooncat}}} Feel better soon. Puppy’s okay not and not in pain. You gave him a good life.

Aww, I’m sorry to hear this. My dog died on Saturday, but she was elderly with many ailments so it wasn’t a huge shock. It must be very hard when it’s so unexpected like that. I’m sure he was lucky to have had a good life with your family for the time that he did. Many dogs don’t get that.

I’m so sorry. I hope you can take at least small comfort in the fact that you gave Kero as much joy, happiness, and love as he gave you. Though I don’t know you or your family, I have an adorable picture of Kero in my head! Since you have told us a bit about him, we will remember him with you.

My thoughts are with you tonight! Rest assured that Kero lived a wonderful life and will not be forgotten.

You did give Kero a wonderful second chance at life by Rescuing him and his brother and providing love and food for them. (Sometimes it is mostly food that matters to dogs.)

I am so very sorry about Kero.
