This may be early, due to the fact that Wally’s passing hasn’t yet sunk in with the entire community. But may I propose that we all give are final farewell to that great guy. And possibly the thread could be printed out and laid to rest with Wally. I think Amy should start this thread in a few days–then we all may have come to terms with what has happened. I’m still kinda stunned. ---

This is all such a shock…but FWIW, I emailed Amy back, babbling incoherent sympathy. She and her mom are pretty devestated by this, as you can imagine. As if the shock and grief aren’t enough, a world of burdensome details land as well. I told her _not to worry about responding_–the funeral rituals can be both excruciating and numbing–but asked her if there is any rememberance or donation Wally’s SDMB friends could make. Right now, she and her mom are probably doing well to get through each minute as it comes. So I’d recommend we wait in respectful silence. If there’s some recognized remembrance, we’ll find out. If not, do some good in Wally’s name anyway. My best guess right now. Veb ---

At the risk of being morbid, can someone tell me how Wally died? I read some of his older threads and saw that he was going in for surgery, but I didn’t find any details. ---

Guy, there’s a thread by Amy called “Announcement” that’s closed now, but it’s here in MPSIMS. It doesn’t go into a lot of detail, but it appears Wally fell (off something?). Dammit. ---

Fantastic job Opal, BTW, a few weeks ago I asked Wally in chat what he did for a living, and he said, “I’m a mechanic.” But i’m curious, as well as others, as to “what happened!” If he fell off something (or if something fell onto him?)? Poor fella. ---
