Apparently I’m ill. My throat feels like ten miles of bad road, my tongue has a nice ecru hue to it and the chills I’m experiencing are making me feel like a Amana washing machine with all the sweaters on one side of the tub. And to top it all off, I can’t get up the energy to find the remote and turn of Digimon Monsters. God bless Carnation instant hot chocolate, mixed with milk not water! What? What was that? I think it’s my bed calling me. ---

Ooooooh…REAL hot chocolate is best. With a shot of peppermint schnapps. Almost makes up for not having someone to snuggle with. ALMOST, I said! 😃 ---

Oooo, I think I’m gonna go make some now. **Zenster** , I’ll add that vanilla in this time. The best stuff I’ve had was made from the Frango mint cocoa from Marshall Field’s. Mmmmmmmmmmm… **Nym** , I don’t think it even comes close to a snuggle substitute. But at least it’s readily available. I’ll have to be happy with a nice chockie (sp?) and my fur-kids for now. **Jack** , feel better soon. ---

Make a huge stash of hot chocolate mix (adapted from a recipe on here somewhere last year) 3 cups powdered sugar 1 & 1/2 cups powdered milk 4 cups intant chocolate milk mix 2 cups dry coffee creamer (I like amaretto flavored best) 1 box instant chocolate pudding mix. Mix it all together and store in an airtight container Add to hot water for the yummiest cocoa ever. Measurements will vary by taste 🙂 I put 3 1/4cup scoops into a 16oz styrofoam cup of hot water. ---

I thought this was going to be another band appreciation thread. Oh well. Umm… try grating a little nutmeg into it. I use a 2/3 1/3 chocolate cocoa mixture so it isn’t too sweet. ---

Ah yes hot chocolate. My wife makes the best… she makes it with balls of pure cocoa from Trinidad. She grates it, adds cinnamon, a bay leaf, and nutmeg. She heats it for a while, and mixes it with milk. I tell you, this is good stuff. It tastes much like Mexican hot chocolate, but better. You can tell it’s from raw chocolate, because it tastes a bit oily. Yummm… ---

Hot chocolate is pure comfort food. It’s best made w/ real cocoa, scalded milk, a pinch of salt &… But for a real headachy, feverish, miserable, can’t breathe, throat ripping, kill-me-now cold try this: Boil some water; drop in a slice of fresh ginger; squeeze in a half-lemon and let it steep. Fish out the ginger, glop in some honey, and glug in a generous measure of bourbon/whiskey of your choice. Or bobbit in some candied ginger if ya got it. (Add spices to taste; cardmon or whatever; it’s your cold.) Drink sitting in a hot tub, or wrapped up in your favorite blankey. Warning: probably not good for kids due to the honey–not to mention the whiskey. But the lemon/ginger/heat goodness is really comforting. Veb ---

Ummmm…Land O’ Lakes hot chocolate. Comes in different flavors that you buy by the envelope. Only instant hot chocolate I found that doesn’t have (shudder) WHEY in it. I make it with real milk in my Phantom of the Opera cup. Heaven! ---

It is now 10AM Pacific Time. The good news is - I’m still alive. The bad news is - I’m still alive. At least I’ve blown off work today and I’m neck deep in hot chocolate. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. No, I’m not having a near death experience - I’m actually optimistic that I will be normal (or as normal as I can get) soon. Thanks everybody for the well wishes and the hot chocolate recipes. Unfortunately, I’m not Martha Stewart so I don’t have the ingredients suggested, but they were appreciated none-the-less. ---

I sympathize, Jack. I’m coming down with something myself. It was just an annoying cough yesterday, now it’s turning into a fledgling illness with stuffy nose, hacking cough, etc. It’ll be a full-grown sickness by the time I goet home from work today, I’ll suffer horribly tomorrow and Thrusday (my two days off work this week) and then it’ll clear up just in time for me to come back to work on Friday. Damn the luck, I don’t get to use a sick day on the days I’ll be sick enough to not come to work. I’m definately buying hot chocolate on the way home though. With marshmallows. ---

Two hot chocolate suggestions: 1. Use a cappucino frother to heat the hot chocolate. 2. If you didn’t buy the kind with the mini-marshmallows, raid the box of lucky charms (warning - not for use if there is nausea involved - rainbow colored cocoa could be a tummy tosser) ---
