In Pulp Fiction, Bruce Willis and John Travolta exchange a few words at a bar, in between meetings with Marcellus. I cannot catch what they say. What is it? ---

While Butch waits for his smokes, Vincent just sips his coffee, staring at him. Butch looks over at him. ``` BUTCH Lookin' at somethin', friend? VINCENT I ain't your friend, palooka. Butch does a slow burn toward Vincent. BUTCH What was that? VINCENT I think ya heard me just fine, punchy. Butch turns his body to Vincent, when... MARSELLUS (OS) Vincent Vega has entered the building, git your ass over here! ``` ---

An interesting note about that scene- Butch is the one who keyed Vincent’s car. When Vince and Jules pull up to the bar, they park next to Butch’s car. Then the exchange between Butch and Vincent occurs. Later that day, Vincent bitches to Eric Stoltz that someone keyed his car. ---

Didn’t Mr. Wolf see to the removal of that car? Didn’t they have to take a cab from the car disposal lot after Mr. Wolf gave the gal a ride in his car and tell them to find other transportation? Also, didn’t the restaurant/robbery thing happen along the way? Did we see them leave in a car from there? Just asking… ---

That’s correct; it’s impossible for them to be there in Vincent’s car because we know they took a cab from the wrecking lot. There is no scene in the film of them pulling into the parking lot and parking next to any car, much less Butch’s. ---

They were going to share a cab from the junkyard to the diner to get breakfast (“I see… a cab ride in your future”). They could have gone from the diner to get Vincent’s car, I guess, on the way to Marcelus’. ---

You guys are wrong, all wrong. The scene in the bar between Vince and Butch occurs (chronologically) AFTER the scene in the diner. Jules is wearing his suit and he is shown pulling up to Marcellus’ strip joint in his red Malibu convertable which he parks next to Butch’s white Honda Civic. The scene in the bar with Marcellus and Butch setting up Butch’s dive in the upcoming fight is the same scene that Vincent and Jules enter and wait at the bar until Butch finishes with Marcellus. No car in that scene. Jules heads to the restroom before Vincent and Butch have their exchange after Butch gets his Red Apples. During the bar scene, the bartender ribs Vincent about his upcoming date with Mia. Then Marcellus calls Vincent over to the table. Vincent and Jules are still in the grubby clothes Jimmy gave them. No suit for Jules. Unless there’s a bootleg version of PF out there that’s closer to the quoted script, that never made it to the screen. Could have been filmed and cut before the shown version. ---

I was half starting to wonder if QT had gone George Lucas on us and changed the film around in a susequent DVD release. It does make sense that Butch was the one that keyed Vincent’s car though. I think you’re right about that scene getting dropped in shooting or editing. There are definitely references in the film to events that didn’t make the final cut. Another example is Mia’s suggestion to Vincent that as an Elvis man, he would love Jack Rabbit Slims. The reference doesn’t make sense until you see the deleted scene with Mia’s theory about Beatles people and Elvis people. ---
