> I’m a soccer fan and not a Ramos or RM fan, but I think that this video is why people dislike soccer. Ramos is portrayed as a dirty player, but half of those dirty plays are mild contact with great acting by the victim. I would describe him as an aggressive player that likes to skirt the line. Most of what he does in any sport except soccer would get lauded as gamesmanship. In soccer for some reason, almost all contact is heavily policed, so it gets called dirty play. So, to answer the question, it would be very rare for someone to kick the ball directly at another person’s junk because there’s a heavy chance they’d get red carded.

Well, we’ve heard Ramos can be a little testes.

Do professionals routinely not wear a cup in soccer? I’m not saying that’d take all the sting out, but I can’t believe they’re running around with the possibility of getting kicked right in the crotch for 90 minutes with no protection.

No, soccer players generally don’t wear cups. They limit mobility and speed.

I agree with this. Although I think this is a function of the editor more than it is of Ramos. Ramos is plenty dirty. In the CL final he both intentionally took Salah to the ground witch resulted in a dislocated shoulder and elbowed Karius in the head which resulted in a concussion.

Red cards tend to be for violent conduct or serious foul play. It would thrill me to no end if that was called for actual violence more often and less for touching your forehead to an opponent or lightly pushing them and having your hand brush their face.

As far as a red for kicking a ball at an opponent, there is the 2002 acting job by Rivaldo. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OiW0IPrv1Ro](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OiW0IPrv1Ro) Not quite what the OP is talking about, but interesting anyway. IMO, I would prefer either a yellow to both or maybe only a yellow to Rivaldo. Straight red is ridiculous.

I’ve confess I’ve never known any keeper that does, possibly at the higher levels but amateur and semi-pro I’ve not seen it.

At that level, sure - but for a 12 year old boy, hey, goals happen all the time and it’s just another game, but how often do you get a free shot at your best friend’s nuts?

I’ve always worn one when playing indoor soccer. I want to make sure I can use my whole body to stop any kind of one-on-one/breakaway type encounter. It’s pretty rare an actual shot will hit you there.

For getting hit in the nuts? no penalty for either person, perfectly legal.

It would be penalised however if the whistle had gone and play had stopped and you took a shot at an opposition player but the fact it was at the nuts is irrelevant.

Having played soccer in high school, first of all like others suggested it’s rare to wear a cup. You just don’t need it. Nobody I knew wore one. Most injuries will of course be from the knees down. (I myself broke a toe once.)

Actually getting hit in the groin, by a ball, hard enough to be injured… I’m honestly not sure how that would happen. Your genitalia is kind of tucked away between two thighs and below an abdomen, all of which is projecting further from your body than your genitals. Given the diameter of a soccer ball I’m not sure how it could strike someone in the groin without being deflected by a different part of the body. Not unless that person was lying down with their legs spread.

Unless you’re running around with an erection, in which case, ouch, and also, huh?!

Ah, I think I get it now, but I’ve rather spoilt the moment.

Mind you, there’s no real need to gild the lily here. No need to make a joke out of a nut-shot, the nut-shot _is_ the joke. The purest and noblest of them all.
