As a teenager my Job’s Daughters group were treated to a road trip to Los Angeles to attend a live TV show taping. We weren’t told beforehand what show we were attending. You can imagine our disappointment when we found out it was The Bobby Goldsboro Show with guest stars the Lennon Sisters!
The Osmonds were talented performers, but they were stuck with the cheese factory that was Sid & Marty Krofft. Instead of spending time with their guests (some great, some not so great), they were forced to interact with puppets. I know they were teenage Mormons and couldn’t do anything suggestive, but I would have much more pleasant memories of hearing Donny duet with, maybe, Charley Pride than some damn foam rubber puppet.
Similarly, The Everly Brothers Show was a 1970 summer replacement series for The Johnny Cash Show, and they had some tremendous guests, many of whom aren’t even listed on the IMDB page. They should have spent more time with Arlo Guthrie, Marty Robbins, Ike and Tina Turner, Linda Ronstadt*, and the Carter Family, and less with Joe “You in a heap o’ trouble, boy” Higgins and pretending that daffy Ruth McDevitt was their maiden auntie.
*Don and Linda duetting on “I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight.” Get a room.
Carol Burnett! Sorry if someone else already posted it.
Joey Heatherton had a variety show called Joey and Dad. Yes, her dad was on it.
Also, I seem to remember Dewey Cox having one called DEWEY, but I can’t find it on the IMDB…
I remember being very impressed with his improvised songs. I actually wondered if it was “staged” in some way…
