I’m a cradle Episcopalian, and I’ve heard this hymn many many times over the years, especially at funerals (it was sung at a funeral I attended a couple weeks ago). That is probably because something like 8 out of 10 Mississippians are Southern Baptists; people automatically assume you’re Baptist unless you tell them otherwise. **Snickers** : I’ve heard that joke too. I had a crush on her daughter, now as then a knockout. 🙂 ---

I’ve heard it often enough, it was on some Time-Life gospel collection from the eighties as done by a famous singer (sorry can’t recall who it was), I think he probably charted with it back in the sixties or seventies or maybe earlier. ---

… actually I think every major singer who has done a gospel crossover album in the U.S. has probably sung it. It’s a pretty well entrenched gospel standard for as long as I can remember. I’m pretty sure Elvis has done it, as well as George Jones. Pretty cheesy. ---
