Can you blame me for being a bit scared? Some of you might know that I’ve been having stomach problems for quite some time now. I was on meds for six weeks and as soon as I got off, the problems came back. I went back to my doc and all he wanted to do was precribe more Losec. Hey, guess what? It didn’t work last time! I will not be popping pills for months only to discover that there is something seriously wrong with me. I want a check-up, I want to _know_. Today’s the day. I’m scared, and I’m light-headed from not eating for 12 hours. My stomach hurts like hell, and I can’t even have a Tums, and I’m generally in a pissy mood. But today I’ll find out what’s wrong with me, and something can be done to correct it. Anyway, wish me luck. ---

Esshh I know how that kinda stuff is. Hopefully it’ll all go well and you’ll have no problems whatsoever with them doing it. Luckily I never got the tube down my throat just had to drink a shitload of a Berium(sp?) substance. Thankfully they didn’t try to go in on the other end with that stuff :eek: ---

it’s pretty icky honey, but they’ll probably pump you full of Largactil. You probably won’t remember much of what happened - be grateful for that. The alternative is approaching things from the other end of your alimentary canal. If they need to do other tests and you need someone to hold your hand, I’m sure that within a community of 15 thousand people somone can physically be there with you. Ring us, message us, page us - whatever you need us to do to makee this a little more bearable, we’ll be there. ---

**That must have been the single most disgusting thing I’ve ever had to go through.** \ ***Warning!** If you are easily disgusted, skip the rest of the post. I’m sorry if I gross you out, but I feel a need to make everyone as miserable as me. \* Seriously, it was horrible. Fortunately, it only lasted for five minutes or so, but it must have been the longest five minutes of my life. And they didn’t give me any sedatives, they just sprayed something nasty in the back of my throat so that I wouldn’t gag. (Guess what? It didn’t help!) Then they told me to lay down on my side and started _shoving_ that damn thing in my mouth. “Swallow, swallow” was all I heard, and when I tried, I just wanted to throw up. Eventually, it was all the way down and they started _inflating_ me. YUCK! I felt like a balloon. All the time I was sobbing like crazy and tears were running down my face. I was so miserable. And then, all of a sudden, it was over. Just as I was almost beginning to relax a bit they pulled it out. Good thing (or is it really?) is that there is nothing seriously wrong with me. No ulcers, no tumors, no gastritis. What has been causing my problems is a hernia in my stomach, and I’ve been having acid reflux as a result. On the other hand, I don’t know what they are going to do to treat it. If it had been an ulcer, they would have put me on anti-biotics and Losec. If it had been gastritis, it would have been just the Losec. But a hernia is not treatable with meds. And I don’t know if they think surgery would be worthwhile. So now I’m starting to think that maybe I’ll have to learn to live with this and always keep a big pack of Tums at home. Anyway, I survived. But I will never, ever do it again without sedatives… ---

Good luck! I was worried too, but when I actually had the precedure it was painless. I was completely unconcious the entire time. I actually thought the lack of eating was the worst part. Hopefully, things will go well for you! ---

Wish the proceedure would have been less traumatic for you Soda, my sympathies. It’s hard for me to believe the physician didn’t use Versed to whack you out during the scope insertion, bad on him/her! I’m also sorry that your problem isn’t going to be resolved any time soon, hope there’s someone around who can pamper you silly for a few days… sending good thoughts your way. ---

Oops. Thought this was another flirt thread. Well, glad to see you came out without anything too serious. And yeah, the normal treatment for that is lifestyle changes. But there are alternatives in some cases. Run an internet search so you know what questions to ask your doctor. All the best to you.
