In which I get called fat after losing 20 pounds

good luck with that, chief. “Wigger” was in common use when I started high school in 1990.

Very common term around my kids’ schools, but that wasn’t the definition my son gave me…I’ll have to check with him. I thought he said it had to do with the goth/skateboard schism.

Anyhow, in regards to your picture: if that is what is considered fat, all the years I got teased in high school are an added testament to the irrationality of children.

Things improve like you wouldn’t believe once you get out of high school, believe me.

I remember this kid Cody who mocked me for YEARS. I don’t even remember what he made fun of me for. I turned around one day and said “Don’t you have anything better to do than follow me around?”

“No!” he said proudly.

I paused. “That’s really sad,” I said, and walked off. Not my best put-down ever, but satisfying.

Get a haircut!
:p:cool:

Whatevs. Hipsters have been using the portmanteau *wiggersatz *since, oh, at least Wednesday. <yawn>

Yeah, and lots of folks said “nigger” all the time at my high school, too-- that doesn’t mean it’s an ok thing for us to say.

I don’t think all the kids even realize what they are saying, but it certainly does mean “white nigger”— the implication being that you’re a white person who acts black. For instance, Eminem is regularly called a wigger in non polite conversation here and there. It’s not a complimentary thing (it’s not saying, “You share the common and useful character traits of our brilliant and successful President, wigger!”- but instead focuses on negative stereotypes against African Americans. Stuff like- “Why are you sagging your pants, wigger?” “Why are you talking with an accent, wigger?”).

Here’s the Urban Dictionary entry on the topic- though some of them suggest that the W stands for Wannabe, not white.

Not only that, it also implies that there is something essentially racial about one’s culture which is a bit dodgy.

I don’t really understand your OP, but based on that picture, I suggest you disregard anyone calling you fat - you aren’t.

And get a haircut.

Pull up your pants, son.

[Dean Wormer]Well…, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son.[/DW]

Canonical comeback: I can lose weight. You’ll stay an asshole your whole life.

Jerks are just jerks. Sometimes they grow up, sometimes they don’t. Don’t let it get to you.
For what it’s worth, that picture reminds me of the very popular quarterback of my high school football team. Of course, that was way before your time, but I don’t think you have anything to worry about.

I’m not sure the term “wigger” is as offensive to young people as it might seem to someone who is just learning the meaning of the word. The word was used extensively in my middle school (mid-90’s) and basically referred to “skaters,” or more generally anyone who “wigged” their pants down i.e. wore them well below the waist (which was actually a pretty common fashion statement in my middle school days). It fell out of use in high school in favor of more specific descriptors (skater, goth, punk, etc), but it still hung around. It was usually derisive but it never really carried much of a racial connotation. If you called someone a wigger in front of an African-American student, they wouldn’t be offended and would most likely agree with you, at least at my school back in the day (class '01).

You are a handsome young man. That guy is an idiot.

For all the people trying to define “wigger” it’s used today as a white guy that tries to act black.

For all those (1 or 2 maybe?) wondering how to lose weight, the only thing that works for me is writing down EVERY SINGLE THING I eat or drink excluding water. It makes you eat less, but stay healthy. That and exercise (I bike about 8-10 miles on an average week, but that’s cause I lack a car).

Not just black, but low class black. If black kids emulated white people who are called trailer trash, there’d be a term for that too.

::shudder:: There’s enough naturally-occurring white trash, TYVM.

No shit.

That’s how it was used when I was in high school too. (I graduated in '96)

It was racist then, and it’s racist now.

Omg! But the kid called him fat! He totally deserved it. Gosh.

Jeeez people! The kid (OP) is in HS give him a wee bit of a break here. Wisthekiller is that for W is the killer or Wis the killer? Anyway, that’s not a good word and it’s not very mature, so as others have said, dropping that and any other racist type slang would be a great start.
