So yesterday, in the guess-my-age thread, I was inspired by \*\*Miss Purl Knittington \*\* to try pincurls. It’s something I’ve always been meaning to try but never got around to … I always think of doing it when it’s most inconvenient (like in the middle of teaching class, or something) and then I forget about it later. Anyway. So last night, since I had absolutely nothing more important to do than watch Gossip Girl (bite me) and re-runs of CSI, I sat on my sofa and laboriously put my hair up in [pin curls,](http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x163/faeriehazel/hair/pincurls.jpg) with the result of[my head looking like](http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x163/faeriehazel/hair/pincurls01.jpg) a … I dunno, but nothing human. ANYway, so I wake up this morning, heart a-flutter, and so go through the painstaking process of unpinning my hair and taking it all back down. It doesn’t even look like a bad hair day - it looks like a caricature of a bad hair day. My dreams of looking like Betty Grable were uncerimoniously [shattered](http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x163/faeriehazel/hair/pincurls03.jpg). At least my cat [still loves me](http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x163/faeriehazel/hair/pincurls04.jpg). I’ve managed to [tame the beast](http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x163/faeriehazel/hair/pincurls05.jpg) somewhat [with a hairclip.](http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x163/faeriehazel/hair/pincurls06.jpg) Fortunately I am also awaiting the delivery of my new curling iron today, which I firmly believe will save me from the chaos that is planning to eat my face sometime in the course of the day. ---

It looks pretty good in parts! You’re probably going to hate me for saying this, but it looks like you need to do smaller sections. I do strips that are about a half-inch wide when I put mine up, and my hair’s a lot shorter than yours. When I had long hair, I did sections that were a little less than a half-inch – maybe 3/8? It also helps to cover them up with a scarf while you sleep. It keeps the little hairs from wiggling out. Remember: It’s only hair. Wash it and it’s undone. Next time will be better. ---

That is the look I actively seek! Gorgeous fluffy curly hair! I use hot rollers. I’ll try pincurls if my hair can look that good! ---

What you need is a good old fashioned “hair dressing” such as Alberto VO5. How do you think Betts got hers to behave? Fear not, though, I think they have new age products (I use one called Sleek One.) that can tame those wild hairs for you. ---

is the guide I pointed\*\* HazelNutCoffee\*\* to. This is [url=http://pics.livejournal.com/msmcknittington/gallery/00006k0x]the riot that resulted with my last foray. It quickly devolved into pretending I was a Shirley Temple on a mid-40s bender. For setting lotion, I like a little leave-in conditioner. Some people recommend soft-hold spray gel, but I think that makes the curls unpleasantly crunchy. You can buy actual setting lotion at places like Sally Beauty Supply, but I’ve never done so. Le lazy. ---

That would take foreeeeeeeeever with my hair. :smack: I’ll give it a shot sometime in the future though. **Rebo** , no worries - I think it’s hilarious you thought that was the finished product! FWIW, I think it looks great too. Wish **my** hair would do that! Sometimes a drastic change just shocks you at first. I remember the horror of my first perm – until I got used to it. ---

[/QUOTE] I really don’t know why I’m doing this, especially since I took half a dozen pictures and this is the very best I could come up with but [this is me as of a couple minutes ago](http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2351/2163448452_5cf791158d_o.jpg). You can’t really see the sideburns sticking out quite as much in the picture but it’s really obvious looking in the mirror. They have to be sticking out a good quarter of an inch. ---

I would kill for a head full of thick curls!!! I used to sleep in curlers, my hair saturated in gel, and the best I could get was like [this](http://groups.msn.com/FCMII-FestPages/shoebox.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=123), and in no time at all, it’d be straight strings again. Even when I broke down and paid a pro for a perm, it started relaxing in just a few weeks.
