Really? Laura Bush should get a pass because she wasn’t a public figure at the time? WTF? Did you miss the part where she never even got a traffic ticket for missing a stop sign and taking a life? How is that anything but shameful? They both took lives by unsafely operating their vehicles into accidents. One is expected to continue paying for it after he’s dead. The other, didn’t get so much as a ticket, much less stand before a judge. ---

Here is one thing that I never understood: Kennedy said that he passed several houses on his way back to the hotel, but didn’t stop because no lights were on. WTF?!? There is a girl dying at the bottom of a channel. I think that is a good excuse to interrupt someone’s beauty sleep. My WAG as to what really happened: Kennedy was drunk and looking for a piece of tail. He was driving across that bridge to go to the beach and get a little pooty-tang. He crashes in the water. I give the man enough credit to say that he tried his damnedest to get her out and swam until he was exhausted. He sits on the bank and decides that he is royally fucked. Here he is in the middle of nowhere, drunk off his ass, with a girl who is not his wife on a road that leads to nowhere but a fuck spot, and she is now dead. I’m convinced that in his mind he thinks the girl is now dead. All he knows now is that he has to get the hell back to the hotel and sober up before someone sees him. He shows up at the front desk complaining about noise to establish a half-assed alibi that he was in his hotel all night. At some point I’m sure that he realizes that the car will be traced back to him through the plate. He confers with his aides and tries to come up with a story that makes a little bit of sense. The story he came up with was full of holes, but not bad for some on-the-fly making up stuff. What do you think? Plausible? ---

The point you don’t seem to get is that Ted Kennedy holds a public office, which makes him a valid target for criticism.
