_Date: Boxing Day_ _Scene: Piper Kitchen_ _Discovered on the floor: Northern Piper and Piper Cub, putting together a radio controlled car from Santa_ **Cub** : The car takes AA batteries. We’ve got a big packet of those! _Cub runs and gets AA batteries; the two install them in the car._ **Piper:** Now the remote. Let’s open it. _Business with screwdriver_. **Cub** : What kind of battery goes in there, Daddy? AA and AAA won’t fit. **Piper** : That takes a special 9 volt battery. Sort of like a cube. **Cub, disappointed voice** : Aw, we don’t have any of those! **Piper** : Actually, I just happen to have one of those batteries in my pocket. _Piper fishes a 9 bolt battery from his pants pocket and installs it in the remote._ **Piper:** There! It works! **Cub, in a meditative tone** : Daddy, why did you have that kind of battery in your pocket? **Piper, sensing a trap** : At this time of year, all Dads carry batteries around for just this sort of emergency. **Cub** : Are you _sure_ you’re not Santa? ---

I’m sure it’s a rare thing um… Santa, but be very careful carrying a 9v in your pocket if you have anything else like change or keys in your pocket. Can short it out. ---

She looked at me like I had a hole in my head. I remembered that “arguing” has a different meaning for lawyers than most parents. 😛
