I don’t see any good reason not to be generous and understanding to a recovering Steelers fan. And if a man wants to deny being a Republican…well, at worst its an admirable taste in dissemblance! Just watched Barry’s speech of reconciliation and bi-partisan comity, and not a bit of snark detected. Shit, if it were Horndog Bill, you _know_ he would have snuck in at least a spoonful of gloat! I swear, we elected a Vulcan. ---

I don’t get this “throw all the bums out” sentiment. Assuming it’s in good faith, and assuming that your representative (or senator) had a (D) behind his name, would you have wanted him/her to appease the Tea Party and their demands? Is your analysis that the harm suffered by the public in the interim warranted giving in to the condoning of the Tea Party’s use of the debt ceiling in this manner? Or do you think that a default (or major contraction in government spending) would have little effect, since the interim effects of the shutdown appear to have been somewhat contained and certainly of no worldwide effect? I’ve heard this “throw all the bums out” line a few times over many situations, and I can’t understand it. ---

That hasn’t been clarified, best I can tell. Seems like too much to hope for. Though I can see it as something the money Republicans would want, if only because the Mammonite Church hates uncertainty. Screws up the spreadsheets. But force the Insane Clown Posse to forego leverage? Not sure I can buy that without it being hammered in. ETA: not that I doubt the sincerity of posters who say it is so, only that I am a pessimist, and am therefore seldom wrong.
