In your Opinion, what would you do with 2000 pounds of free marble. Already cut.

I envision a marble topped wet bar complete with sink, rail, barstools, multiple beer taps, etc.

“What’ll it be, chief?”

I think I’d make some sort of sculpture, built up of stacked layers, like this But a different subject, not so much smoothing.

Unless you are real handy, a lot of the suggestions are gonna cost more than the stone is worth. I would just build walkways.

This is not a bad idea!

  • Ya know I’ve told my wife about these boards a thousand times and she always says that that tanookie is a like minded person to myself…so your idea may be the best…
However, my porch needs some work…So I think the boss (my illustrious wife) may want that done before anything else…

Is it a polished finish? If so, there is no way in hell that you can use it for any type of flooring. As someone’s previously said, it’s “slippery when wet.” However, you can use it for wall tile of geometric design.

If it’s not polished, I love the idea of an exterior marble floor. Either a patio or gazebo floor would be beautiful.

Marble countertops/bar in the treehouse!

I was thinking this, but it’s too heavy for the treehouse. as for it being polished. It is. But I see no reason why I can’t score it to make it more rough for outdoor/indoor flooring use.

Do you and your wife plan on attending the fest a que at my house in May?

Let it sit in the barn and collect dust.

Later, your childern can wonder what the heck they will do with this stuff.

A giant checkerboard/chess table!

And it can substitute as an outdoor party table.
Many places rent tile saws, you’ll need one to keep the cuts straight. Make the squares stand out from each other by making the grain face different directions.

This is the type of saw I’m talking about. Kind of like a table saw for tile. Complete with water pump. Having a wet cut makes the cut smoother.

[kitchen and bath designer hat on]
Umm, polished marble floors are very popular. I spec them quite a bit and have yet to have anyone fall due to slipperyness.

I’d see if there is a kitchen and bath dealer who would be interested in buying some or all of it for their projects. Your material is actually 3CM in thickness I’d be willing to bet. The fact that it is all in narrow widths is a bad thing as it is no good for countertops since those need to be ~26" deep in most cases.

The other thing I would do is take a sample of it to your local countertop/granite and marble fabricator and getthe exact name of it, then put an ad in the paper. It’s a beautiful colour and I’m sure there is a homeowner who would love to redo their bathroom with it, that way you will get better than wholesale prices.

Not for outdoor flooring & patios, MikeG .

Rain makes em slick as ice.

My sore behind tells me so.

boy, that’s beautiful color and graining. :: sigh ::

marble is supposed to be excellent for pastry and candy making. if you cut it into large cutting-board sizes, you could sell them with that market in mind. (might check with any local professional bakers or candymakers, see if they’re interested in specialty sized slabs.)

the table top ideas are also good. marble-topped sideboards and hallway tables always seem popular. maybe you could do some flea-market makeovers, for fun and profit.

Ping pong table or pyramid.

Well the Boss (wife) and I are going ot use some of it for a new table. And some of the rest for a coffee table and end tables for the family room. As for the rest…Maybe sell it.

Keep in mind I know nothing about marble. Could you donate some of it to an art school or art program or something for sculpting?

Like music? Build a pipe organ with it. No kidding, its been done before. The Stone Organ

I always thought it would be sweet to have a swimming pool with a marble floor. I wonder if its practical?

Heh. When I was a kid our next door neighbor used exactly that color of marble to make the gaudiest carport ever. Actually, he extended it all the way along the driveway to the street, but as mentioned, marble gets slippery when wet so that’s dangerous in addition to silly.
