We had an ice cream truck drive by the office, playing a tinny calliope version of “The Entertainer” over the speakers… after my standard response to my co-workers of “you want to know how to drive an ice-cream truck driver insane, just ask them if the music they’re playing doesn’t drive them insane?”… I got to thinking… If _I_ ran an ice-cream truck, what song(s) would I play over the loudspeaker just to freak people out and/or drive _them_ insane?.. Hmmm… I think _these_ songs would be nicely strange/inappropriate… Wagner’s “Ride of the Valkyries” the 1812 Overture the theme from “A Nightmare on Elm Street” the “Ch-ch-ch-Ka-ka-ka” sound from the Friday the 13th movies “Tubular Bells” (theme from The Exorcist) the “Imperial March” (Darth Vader’s theme) from Star Wars “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen the “Doctor Who” theme song “Chop, chop, chop” by Alice Cooper “Welcome to my Nightmare” by Alice Cooper and just to nip it in the bud, I’ll post the inevitable Stephen Wright reference… "The ice-cream truck in my neighborhood plays “Helter Skelter” what songs would _you_ play? ---

“Little Girls” by Oingo Boingo Theme from _Jaws_ “Ice Cream Man” by Van Halen N.I.B. by Black Sabbath “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer” by the Beatles Altho “Ride of the Valkyries” is a very good choice – I’d play that too for the absurdist content. ---

Anything but “Pop Goes the Weasel” over, and over, and over again for about three hours across the street from me. I swear that some day I’m going to destroy the speaker on the truck. With a bomb. And why does it say “hello” at the end of the song with the intonation of answering the phone? ---

How about “Mars” from Gustav Holst’s “Planets Suite”? I can just picture the truck riding through the neighborhood with that martial, brooding music blaring. (“Mommy, make the Ice Cream Truck stop that music!”) How about Berhanrd Herrmann’s violin-intensive music from **Psycho**? Of course, any of these choices will be heard longer and more often by the drivers of said trucks. We should carefully consider the effects of driving them insane before we actually implement these choices. ---
