Last thing momma want in first communion pictures is little Jesus drool dripping down their kids first suit. My theory is nuns said this because they knew the host would dissolve and lead to fewer problems.

Well, it’s important to learn civilized manners, even in cannibalism.

Our English teacher once informed us all - out of nowhere, in the middle of a class on King Lear or something - ‘I am only sexually attracted to black women.’

His general vibe was ‘pathetic middle-aged man desperately trying to make a bunch of teenagers think he’s cool’ rather than ‘creepy predator’, so we weren’t freaked out or anything. Possibly we should have been relieved, given that that class was about half white and half Filipina, no black girls, but actually we were too consumed by an overwhelming feeling of ‘Who cares?’ to even get that far.

We also had a teacher who threw chalk at you if you pissed her off. One day a girl caught it and threw it back at her. The teacher raised an eyebrow, picked up the chalk and went back to teaching without a word.

Wow, that is horrible! Because the actual verse she is referencing is Hebrews 6:4-6 (highlighting mine)

Any implication that you are crucifying Christ anew is the implication that you are beyond salvation!

I’ve related this story before, in another thread.

My 2nd grade teacher was more of a disciplinarian that a teacher. She would give us an assignment every morning, and you wouldn’t be allowed to eat lunch until you were finished with it. I was very meticulous in my work, so most days I ate my lunch in the bus, on the way home.

In the back of the classroom was the “cloak room,” hidden by heavy doors that lifted up, like garage doors. There was neither light nor fresh air in the cloak room. If a student misbehaved, he had to stay in the cloak room until given permission to come back. The rest of us were instructed to ignore any crying or screaming that came from the cloak room.

Another of her favorite punishments was to not allow the kid to go to the restroom, for the rest of the day . . . then ordering the kid into the cloakroom for going in his pants. It wasn’t unusual for all of our coats to smell like piss or shit.

One PTA meeting, she told our parents that she hated children . . . especially boys.

I wasn’t the only kid who started having nightmares while I was in her class. These nightmares continued for several years.

This was back in the 50s, and nobody reported things like this. You had to accept everything without question.

In 8th grade (1985-6) a kid in my class was middle eastern, or perhaps Pakistani (I don’t think I ever knew his precise ethnicity). But the PE coach thought it was big laffs to call him ‘camel jockey’ all the time.

A HS substitute teacher with tits much larger than cantaloupes, showed pics of herself in a bikini.
Gym teachers would have students who had fought ‘take it to the gym’ and ‘put on the gloves’. Of course, this was acceptable at the time, but, still brutal; if somebody was being bullied by a giant, rather than stepping in, the lesser of the two would still end up getting his ass whipped by the bully.
Teacher gave points to students for bringing him golf balls in good shape.

We were taught in 7th grade science that rivers , ALL rivers, flow north to south.

He also said all kinds of crap. Once he said that we, as a class, could go raid a nuclear powered power plant, take the radioactive stuff back to his science class, and build a working nuclear bomb using only what was already in the classroom.

> One of my university teachers apparently kept a bottle of liquor in his office and would drink in his office. I heard that one day one of his classes was too much for him to bear without the alcohol, so he brought it into class. (Though this wasn’t something I personally saw, just heard secondhand.)

I saw this firsthand.

In my undergraduate years, I was in a small seminar (four students or so), and because the seminar was so small, we held it in the professor’s office. Typically, when our seminar class was over, the professor would pull out a bottle and ask who would like a drink. So, we’d have a drink after class with the professor.

Note that this was in Ontario, Canada; where the drinking age was 19, and this was a fourth-year seminar, so we were all well over that age. Thus, it may not be as inappropriate as it seems.

OK…a different kind of inappropriate. My Economics teach in high school in the late 80s was teaching from a curriculum that came with a really cool computer program to print out tests. He didn’t know anything about using a computer. He knew that I was pretty sharp and did computer stuff, so he gave me the program and asked me to print out the tests. And the answer key for him. Every chapter. He even asked me if I thought it looked easy or hard.

My 7th grade teacher took the last day before Christmas vacation to recite the story of “The Littlest Angel”. We actually sat still and listened, since we knew we weren’t going to be tested on it.

There was a sixth grade teacher who wouldn’t let us sing “Ahab the Arab” because she thought it was ignorant and racist, so I was a bit surprised when one of my college professors called an Iranian student “Our sheik of the burning desert sands.” Fortunately the Iranian guy took it in good stride.

Maths teacher beat me repeatedly on the head with the blackboard eraser.

Class tutor regularly made a show of auditing my homework in front of the whole class in a deliberately belittling and degrading way.

Older kids dragged me to the far end of the playing field and stripped me naked. Head of year told me not to make a fuss over it.

Seems more likely than a teacher not knowing what a bum is. If you have another perspective, please share.

Buchenwald and Dachau were pretty far west. I can’t find a map of their locations against a postwar (East/West Germany) map, but Charles Schulz was apparently in an American unit that liberated one of the two. Who ended up with them after the war is a different matter, I suppose.

I lived in Nashville back then and was in first grade. Prior to his being murdered, most newscasters there had about the same regard for MLK Jr. as current ones have for Rev. Al Sharpton. They would kind of roll their eyes when they talked about how “Martin Luther King got himself arrested again…” Honestly, I thought he was some kind of bank robber from the way he was presented on television.

Well, Dachau is right next to Munich - West Germany. Buchenwald was near Weimar - East Germany.
