I chose 317 because I lived in Carmel, IN for 2 years as a young teen.
Interesting. Why is that?
How did you like it? I was in Indy for my first two years, but the first house I really remember was in Carmel (actually, “Unincorporated Clay Township”–not sure if it’s been annexed since then).
I was 13 when we moved to Carmel, starting 9th grade there. As a new kid in town, I felt like an outsider and never really fit in well. The city was nice enough, but when we moved two years later I was happy to leave. I fit in better at my next destination.
I gotta go with 574 and 317, since I’ve had both - 317 being my current area code for the last 23 years.
219 because it’s closest to the south side of Chicago where I grew up. The best area code is 202. WDC where I lived in my 20s.
260 because Fort Wayne borders the much greater state to the north.
317! I live in Central Indiana, not far from Indianapolis.
Hard disagree. The best codes have 0 in the middle because the “oh” is a perfect break between any two other numbers. It sounds graceful.
No that there’s anything wrong with one, but it just sounds like a number, not an interjection.
WOOT! Although I feel a bit distant from Indy at this point…
I have a strong connection to Michigan too. I dated something up in Lansing, and one of my best friends is from the Flint area. I also get reports from da Yoop, as my first girlfriend lives there now. The only con of Michigan, to me, is that it is more separated from other major places, but that’s also a pro. It truly is a fabulous place.
If one isn’t from the area, one doesn’t know how many and what a huge variety of places that could be!
But it is! We just hide our cool so LA/Hollywood don’t get jealous.
silenus, Child of the 909.
I hate to break it to you, but that thing in the middle is a zero. And the “zer” is not silent.
Are you stalking me? ;-D
I lived in Flint for 2 years and Livonia (next to Detroit) for 4 years.
Most area codes used to avoid 1 or 0 in the last digit, as is proper and correct. I realize there are a couple of exceptions dating back to 1947, so I guess those are all right, but not the ones created in the 1990s.
Find me someone who pronounces 0 as “zero” in a phone number, and I’ll find you someone who is currently or will soon be a serial killer.
8 is my favorite number. And I lived in 812.
I’m nostalgic for Indianapolis zip code 46260, but not very.
What??? Amazing!
