I don’t think there will be any Nazis. IIRC, Speilberg had a sort of religious awakening after shooting Schindler’s List, and among other things decided to stop using Nazis as stock villains in his movies. My money is on a conspiracy within the United States Government, or possibly Commies. That being said, I have a question about Lucas. In most of his interviews he refers to the Star Wars series as a kids’ movie. I think the poor disaapointment with the prequels was mainly because the people who complain on bulletin boards are mostly adults or teeneagers, while he was aiming the movie at little children. So my question is, when Lucas aims a movie at adults, how does it turn out? And which type does he consider the Indy movies to be? ---

I seem to recall that among the artifacts in the Ark of the Covenant were some gilded piles with which Yaweh had afflicted the enemies of the Israelites. Given Indy’s advanced age, there’s got to be a plot hook in there somewhere. “Coming soon to a theater near you: _Indiana Jones and the Hemorrhoids of Doom_.” ---

Yes, I read this too back in the day, and so I’m a little surprised this movie is happening. Its possible they might pretend that Indy hasn’t aged, and that this time around he fights Imperial Japan rather than Nazis. I don’t know that Indiana Jones would work so well fighting the Red menace. ---

Actually, if you include the “just-finished” adventures in the Indy movies, he’s been all over already. Utah (the cross of Coronado) Hong Kong (the ashes of Nurhachi) India (the Sankara stones) South America, country unnamed (the Hovitos golden idol) Nepal (fighting bad guys) Egypt (Ark of the Covenant) Venice (the tomb of Sir Whositz) back out in the desert, I forget where (the Holy Grail) I figure there’s some good ground to be had in Europe, based on the above. There are enough historical/religious figures, not necessarily Biblical themselves, who might have left behind suitable treasures: King Arthur, Jean d’ Arc, and so on. That might make for a good just-finished adventure in the first reel. There might also be some good stuff in China, or perhaps Mongolia. The tomb of Emperor Qin comes to mind, or the last burial place of Genghis Khan. They might work well as a starter course — especially since the treasures in the opening reel aren’t necessarily magical. Also, what if they cast an Indy Jr. who wasn’t Indiana’s son or daughter? What if it were Marcus Brody’s daughter, or Sallah’s? It really seems as if they’ve already covered the father-son dynamic pretty well in Indy 3; would an Indy’s-daughter dynamic cover enough new ground?
