And there are other generalizations of the real numbers which can have a plethora of “numbers” which are greater than all of the real numbers. For instance, you might generalize numbers to functions, and say that g > f iff there is some x[sub]0[/sub] such that for all x > x[sub]0[/sub], g(x) > f(x). All of the real numbers would then correspond to constant functions (like f(x) = 1 or f(x) = pi or whatever), but then you’d also have functions like f(x) = x, which surpasses each real number for a sufficiently large x.
