# Info about cost of termite tests and treatment on homes

Has anyone had experience with getting termite tests and treatment on their home. Our house is on the market, we’ve been informed we’ll need one to sell it, and we don’t want to be in the position to have to take a real estate agent or exterminator’s say-so, since they have a financial interest in the outcome.

Any help will be appreciated.

And links to any good message boards with info about selling homes from the seller’s POV will be appreciated. I’ve Googled, but the Web is choked with gunk from real estate agents and what appear to be scam artists spewing bullshit. All very suspect.

Around here the price of extermination is very reasonable and it is well worth the price to not have to worry about it. Initial treatment is around $100 and then $40 every 3 months. I live in the south and termites are a big problem so “everybody” has a contract with an exterminator to do this. Basically if you don’t have it sprayed you will get termites around here.

That being said if it is not as reasonable where you live you need to learn what to look for. Find some exposed wood and look for damage or nests or eggs just as an exterminator would. It’s spring and the termites should be fairly active and easy to spot now.
