I’ve read that brewery associations spend LARGE dollars to be exempt from listing ingredients. Obviously, they have something in there they don’t want consumers to know about. And if true, obviously their spending works.

Secondly yeah I would guess they’d rather people didn’t realize the number of Calories involved. But aside from that, given the scale of home brewing and the number of microbreweries it’s going to be hard to keep any nasty little secret quiet. There are simply too many people who know how to brew beer and what to expect from the process. Hell, the breweries open their plants up to interested parties.
