Prompted by today’s [classic column](http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/81/why-are-some-belly-buttons-innies-and-others-outies).

Are you an innie or an outtie?

I used to be an innie. Now I’m a faux. Surgery removed my original and my doc sewed me up a fake one. If you look too closely, you’ll see it is not quite in the middle of my belly as it should be…

(Please, no asking ‘cite’ in this thread. I don’t want to open up \*that \*can of worms… not every mention of someone’s belly button is sexual)

Innie for sure. Deep innie, even when I am underweight, my belly button is about 1/2" deep – it’s weird. All of my siblings are innies as are both my children and my husband. No offense meant to outies, but I find them gross.

I’m an innie who turned into an outie and back again. I had a hernia, but it was surgically repaired.

Another innie here. Outties creep me out. I have no idea why.

I think I’m an innie. But you can definitely see the little piece of umbilical cord in there. I used to think people just got that pierced when they had a navel piercing. Now I know better.

I was an outie as a kid, but not I am half innie. The weird thing is, I can push my bellybutton inward and I can feel a scrunching feeling, and it stays innie for a while, and then it slowly goes back to normal. When I do this, I feel a little nauseous. Any ideas why that is?

Innie. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an outtie in real life.

I’m an innie.

I also recently ran across a photo on the web of someone who got a tattoo of a cat on their stomach. From the back. With the tail in the air. Guess what the belly button was? (They were an innie, as well.) I can’t imagine what they were thinking.

That’s what I have! My mom told me the doctor fumbled tying it. It’s a rim around a declivity, with a lump of flesh inside of that. Like something James Lileks would put in the Gallery of Regrettable Foods.

Innie. I’ve only seen a handful of outies in real life.

I’m an innie, as is my son. My daughter’s a “flattie”. Neither innie nor outie, her umbillical scar is almost perfectly flat against her abdomen. She was a micropreemie, so her umbilical stump fell off when her skin was still in fetal making regular skin mode, not scar tissue production mode. For a long time we weren’t sure if she’d have any visible belly button at all.

Awww! Umbily-twins! That’s how I’m going to think of you from now on. In addition to your posts about other things, you’re my soulmate when it comes to navels.

I don’t know, but I get a little nauseated thinking about what you are describing! Scrunching?!?

Anyhoo, I’m another innie who’s never seen an outie.

Innie. Outies give me the willies.

My dad once got really sick and the docs couldn’t figure out why. He was finally diagnosed with Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and the doc asked him when he was bitten by a tick. Dad said he didn’t remember being bitten, but now that you mention it his belly button felt weird. There was a tick that had been in there for three weeks (how long my Dad had symptoms)! Clean your belly buttons people! That’s my PSA for the day.

I’m an innie, but if I feel it, I can feel a hard buttony thingy not too far inside. I never felt it till I was in my 50s.
