After rereading this thread, I just want to add that I love my mom and I actually get along with her really well. Sometimes she drives me over the edge, but most of the time we do okay. Possibly it helps that we live 2000 miles apart.

My ex-wife’s grandparents died a few years ago and in the sideboard we found their wedding china, given to them by one of _their_ sets of parents.

It was still in the original tissue paper and boxes. In over 60 years there had never once been an occasion that was “good” enough to use it.

Am I the only person on earth to totally get along with their mother?

Well, there was this one time…

I was 11 or 12. At the time one of my aunts lived in England, and one Christmas sent odd little knick-knacks along with the normal presentage. There was a pair of little stuffed mice toys, stuffed with what I assume was tea or something similarly scented. cute little felt things and I liked them and had them on my bookshelf.

Eventually, ants or something similarly crawly decided they wanted the contents of these mice, and chewed small holes into the felt and some of the material fell onto the shelf. Being a bit of a pack-rat, I decided that rather than discarding these slightly-leaky stuffed mice it would be better just to not touch them lest they fall further into decay.

So my mom attempted to clean my room (futile task). Found the mice, found “leafy material” and IMMEDIATELY assumed it was marijuana. Upon confrontation, I protested my innocence, but was battered into submission with the line “I was around in the '60s and I know what pot looks like!”

That’s the lone example of motherly stupidity that I can think of. Naturally, when I brought it up 10, 15 years after the fact she had no recollection of the events.

Other than that, we get along wonderfully.

Wow I could write a book on crazy family stufff…

My mother is (was she has gotten better) a schedule Nazi. We were up by 6 (7 on weekends), breakfast at 6:30, teeth brushed by 6:40…etc.

She had this crazy idea that is you had to make an appointment after 8 in the moring the whole day was just ruined! Ruined!

She was uber protective too, even now that I am married she freaks if I go out of town without calling her first.

She was cool at the wedding, plans and all, until I went to leave with my new husband afterwords and she broke iinto hysterics. (did she think it was pretend?)

**jakeline** I had the party thing happen too only it was mom’s birthday and it was her idea and My sister was supposed to plan everything, invitations and all. Two days before she calls asking me if I had addresses for anyone coming. She was also supposed to cook… needless to say it was at my house, I cooked and called people to come.

My sister is a whole 'nuther book.

Sad part to this story, I and giving Mom an acre of our property to live on…

So I am thinking maybe this year for Mother’s Day I will try to find something she will hate, figuring since I have been wrong so many times in the past, maybe this way she will get something that will please her. Nah, on second thought nothing would ever please her.

Your mother sounds like a grade-A jerk.

😃 I like that idea!

There are days when I think that its all to difficult: going to college part-time, working full-time, therpay and taking medications. Then I remind myself that the meds and emotional chemotherapy keep me from being as insane as my parents. Being the oldest student in some classes is annoying, but at least I’m doing something constructive.

Hee. Something similar happened around 13 for me. I was messing around with some dental floss and wound it into a roughly cylindrical shape. It was waxed so it would stay in shape. Days (weeks?) later, I get called downstairs by my folks who demand to know what this thing is that they’ve found. Seeing it in my moms hand was the first time I realized how much it looked like a joint. So when I told them what it was and began unwinding it in front of them, they got so embarrassed. They didn’t tell me what they thought it was. Instead, they gave a lame line about not wasting dental floss and sent me away. I wish I’d had the presence of mind to screw with their minds. Like saying it fell out of dads briefcase. Maybe I should have just offered it to them no charge. “First one’s free, mom.”

Oh my gosh! I can’t believe your mother treats you this way! If all she does is throw tantrums and bad-mouth your gifts, which you have tried to choose to please her, then STOP GIVING HER GIFTS!! You said she never gives you gifts for your birthday or christmas - what a cold-hearted woman. You don’t deserve that. I would “forget” her next birthday and spend the usual $100 on something great for yourself.
