Inside Man is Amazing

Polerius:

Just saw the movie, and I thought the answer to this question was obvious.

“Inside man” refers to Clive Owen, considering where he spends the week after the robbery.

Bolding mine.

I can’t remember where exactly, but I remember reading somewhere that the movie got its rating from when the Mayor referred to Jodie Foster’s character as a ‘Magnificent C**t’.

Woo! A question I can answer that hasn’t already been jumped on. The song is Chaiyya Chaiyya from the (decent, but not great) Hindi movie Dil Se.

It was very odd hearing the song, because I got to the theater a little late, and I heard the song from outside and got amazingly confused about what movie I was about to go see…

Just saw this, could a kind person please clarify something for me please?

About halfway through, the robbers move the female hostages from one room to another and when doing so switch the “34 DD” customer with the “34 DD” robber (or robberess? robberina?)

Did I miss something? because unless i’m mistaken (which is possible, i admit) we see the buxom bank-robber both before the switch (strutting about with a gun) and after (digging the hole)

So, why the switch?

Thanks and regards,
Brian

Why thank you!

I’ll have to see if it’s on the soundtrack CD for Inside Man, or try to find it from other sources. I thought it was a great piece.

I saw this 2 nights ago. Good movie.
I had some questions, which were mostly solved by browsing the IMDB forums. The main confusing thing was the switching, but it turned out you didn’t need to know who was where.
I thought they wrapped everything up quite well:

There is some speculation that Clive Owen was the rabbi’s nephew: “I have a nephew who knows a bit about diamonds”, which explains why Clive Owen cared/knew, but I believe he was also in it for the money.

My sister and I just got back from seeing this movie, based on the reviews in this thread. We both loved this movie and discussed some of the plot points. We laughed at the “arrested for violating the Section 34DD”, when Denzel said to Detective Mitchell, “He was behind me, bending over with my pants around my ankles. But at least it’s a start”.
We discussed whether the robbery accomplices were related to each other, were related to the Jews who had originally owned the diamonds, or were Israelis who orchestrated the robbery to trap Christopher Plummer. Any ideas?

Also, what about the older woman who refused to strip? As I recall, the female robber dragged her into a room and closed the door and that’s the last we ever see of her. I don’t remember seeing her among the hostages or being interrogated.

Oh, one more thing I just thought of. Denzel finally makes the connection that the robbers are the ones who are dragging things out and taking their time, obviously to dig the hole and set up the false room. I got the impression that when those tasks were finished, that Clive Owen quickly made the decision to end the hostage taking right after Denzel discovered that the police themselves, had been bugged and the robbers heard everything they discussed. Was that the trigger they were waiting for or was it the fact that Willem Dafoe had his team ready to attack?
She was interrogated later. She made some comments about how horrible having being told to strip was.

I thought the movie was excellent, and the further away it got from being a “look at how clever these crooks are!” heist flick, the more I liked it. I’m sure there are always some logic flaws in movies like this, but it was enjoyable anyway.

I did see Christopher Plummer’s Nazi connections coming a mile away. Man that age, something terribly embarrassing… that was all I could think of.

The address was 20 Exchange Place. Perhaps the significance was that the crooks exchanged places (sorta) with the hostages to get away?

Medstar,

the fact that the SWAT team was ready to go in was what triggered the bad guys to get out of there. Remember that Denzel had just figured out that they were being bugged the whole time, and he was shouting to the team to not go in. That’s when the bad guys heard they were going in so they ordered the exit. I guess they happened to get it done in time after all.
