Instances of general public/media not going along with s/o's artists'/changed name?

The public tends to call people by whatever name they used when they rose to fame. But “the media” - I mean, in general, aside from columnists and humorists who might be differing to make a joke or a point - is always going to use whatever name the person is using at the time. There’s no reason they shouldn’t, and if you don’t go along with the person wants to be called, you alienate your source. It’s not a good idea.

Belle was not traded. He signed with the White Sox as a free agent. This might have been part of the reason he wore out his welcome in Cleveland.

Tera Patrick is a porno actress whose real name is Linda Shapiro. Carmen Electra is a model/actress whose real name is Tara Patrick. And the joke is that somewhere in America, there’s a librarian whose real name is Carmen Electra but who calls herself Linda Shapiro so people will take her seriously.

Nevertheless, most people tend to assume that Darius Rucker is Hootie, and the rest of the band are the Blowfish.

Sorry, bad memory/trying to forget.

Not at all. I know people who still call her Roseanne Barr. And they shudder when they say it. Not fans.
Personally, I like her and refer to her as Roseanne, which last I heard is what she preferred.

Yeah, but this isn’t really a case of the public not going along wth his wishes. It’s a case - #3938457490298378409348 - of the public being stupid.

This is the same public that thinks that Jethro Tull is the name of the flute-playing lead singer and asks, by the way, which one’s Pink?

Yeah. Alice Cooper had to give in on that one and just accept the band’s name as his personal stage name.

No, it’s another case of it not actually mattering enough to the average person for hir to care.
