If I was around for Day 1 of the SDMB would I have found the 9 current fora [ul] [li]About This Message Board[/li][li]Comments on Cecil’s Columns[/li][li]Comments on Staff Reports[/li][li]General Questions[/li][li]Great Debates[/li][li]Cafe Society[/li][li]In My Humble Opinion[/li][li]Mundane Pointless Stuff I Must Share (MPSIMS)[/li][li]The BBQ Pit[/li] [/ul]??? Was the need for each of these categories anticipated or did they evolve over time as need arose? e.g. “I pit the Mods for always locking my mundane pointless threads. There should be entire forum devoted to mundane pointless Threads!” ---

Looking at the oldest threads in each forum, we get the following dates: [ol][li]About This Message Board [/li] **March 13, 1999** [li]Comments on Cecil’s Columns [/li] **March 28, 1999** [li]Comments on Staff Reports [/li] **April 29, 1999** [li]General Questions [/li] **June 1, 1999** [li]Great Debates [/li] **June 16, 1999** [li]Cafe Society [/li] **August 29, 2001** [li]In My Humble Opinion [/li] **May 25, 2000** [li]Mundane Pointless Stuff I Must Share [/li] **July 11, 1999** [li]The BBQ Pit [/li]**March 19, 1999[/ol]** So it looks like the board started out with ATMB, CCC, and The Pit? And then added CSR, GQ, GD, MPSIMS, IMHO, and CS, in that order? I could very well be wrong though and someone else might be along shortly to give you a more thorough (and more correct?) answer. ---

Evolution. The board started out as being part of the website about Cecil’s columns. That forum, plus “Mailbag” would have been the start. (Maybe ATMB as well. This has been discussed many times before, but my memory fails me.) ---

Actually, when we started on AOL, we had two message board folders: General Questions and Comments on Cecil’s Columns. Ed said, “You can divide up the whole world that way.” When we got off on our own, we gradually added more areas as needed. your humble TubaDiva Administrator ---

I like to think that when Cecil forged his plan for fighting ignorance he created a second foundation … errr… second forum that works behind the scenes in order to keep the first forum from straying too far from “The Cecil Plan”. 🙂
