Intended Audience for Motown

“Holland, Dozier, Holland,” I’m guessing you meant.

Of course, yes; brain fade after a long week.

Thanks.

I got this Motown collection. It covers almost every hit song. There’s a vol 2 collection for after 1971. I rarely listen to it. 70’s Motown is a lot different than the classic era.

I wish it included more Smokey Robinson. I also have his hits cd.

I enjoyed the video. Interesting hearing Paul McCartney paying homage to the Motown artists, and they paying homage to the Beatles in return. The best musicians like fierce competition, it spurs them to strive even higher. The same can be said of the Beatles and Beach Boys (particularly with Sgt. Pepper and Pet Sounds).

Too bad the Motown 1965 UK tour didn’t start with their appearance on Ready Steady Go!, it would have helped fill their venues sooner.

Peter Frampton is another big Motown fan. He’s recorded several tracks with the Funk Brothers and played with the band when they were inducted into Nashville’s Musicians Hall of Fame. Here he is talking about Motown coming to the UK and adapting Marvin Gaye’s One More Heartache for his instrumental album “Frampton Forgets The Words”.

This turned into a much more interesting and informative thread than I expected when I started it. Thanks all.
