> Amazing. A bomb landed pretty much on top of the building I now live in. That’s a really sobering reminder of what WW2 must have been like. I wonder if there’s a similar map for Dresden, or any German city.

[Here you go for Dresden](http://littlebrownbride.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/red20swatch.jpg). It’s zoomed out a bit.

Wow. I had no idea… Stunning.

I never realized how intense the bombing was, and how horrifying it must have been for the residents. I wonder how the city functioned at all during this period.

> Thanks for posting this. It’s extremely interesting to see where they hit, and even though I’ve read about the bombings, seeing all the red really stuns me.

Check out some of the numbers on the red blobs.

That’s just what the project has mapped so far, further down the river was devastated as well, and many, many other places in the UK. A map like this of Germany would, after the various air commands got going, be an even denser sea of red.

It makes me wonder how many people they had mapping the bomb sites, as opposed to, say, fighting fires or clearing rubble.

It reminds me of one one of my fav British miniseries – _Danger: UXB_

[Here’s a BBC news piece](http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/london/4655437.stm) on the official London bomb damage maps from that period. Very interesting. they point out just how miraculously St. Pauls survived almost untouched amidst total devastation.

Here’s another site with better version of that map: [BUILDING STOREYS: The Blitz - Researching the Damage Today](http://building-storeys.blogspot.com/2010/09/blitz-researching-damage-today.html#!/2010/09/blitz-researching-damage-today.html)
