interesting astronomy question

Did someone say something?

This derogatory judgement:

It’s nothing more than an arrogant, childish put-down. This, in response to a sincere question from someone seeking clarification of their experience.

Jeez, EvanS, I don’t read that at all as arrogant. It’s a just a friendly poke. Oversenistive much?

Ooooh. I sincerely apologise. I posted the previous message before I read your note,

. I thought a put-down in GQ was inappropriate, and it was my intent to let the OP know that not all of us are going to use put-downs. If I was the OP I would have felt like I was back in 4th grade being picked on (please put yourself in the OP’s shoes).

I do get the message: mind my own business and let the MODs call what is insulting or inappropriate (hope I got that right, if not, I’m open to learn).

Thank you for setting me straight, and doing so politely. I’m trainable.

Yeah, I’m just a bleeding-heart mush who has had experience working with grade school kids who get put down by their peers and end up with educational problems. Guess it’s one of my triggers.

17 Mea Culpas

Can I be forgiven?

Just this once.

Maybe your guest sub expired on SDMB, but I wouldn’t be surprised if you left willingly! Only a few actually tried to answer your question.

I don’t know what you saw, but it sure sounds interesting!

My guess would be some sort of illusion (not hallucination), like a reflection through an atmospheric anomoly or something. Or perhaps there was something there that looked like the moon, but was difficult to discern because of the proximity to the sun.

I’d love to hear more specific details, if you’re still up to sharing.
