On my morning walk I stopped to ready a historical marker that I’ve walked past multiple times. There are several around here and I should plan my walks to visit more of them. When we’re on road trips I check Google Maps to see if there are ones to stop at to break up the drive. Please post some interesting ones here.

My first entry is about the song “Jingle Bells”.

Was walking around in Nice when we came across this one - apparently Napoleon lived in this house for a brief time.

I had a class in early 20th century poli sci that covered [Treaty of Portsmouth - Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_Portsmouth) . When Rob was temporarily stationed in Portsmouth for a boat refit, we went to see the marker there =)

I’m from next door in Greenville and we have a marker that commemorates the first treaty that the US government ever signed with the Native Americans.

Basically the first lie and broken promises in a long line.

The annual winners of the Calaveras Jumping Frog contest all have a marker on the sidewalks of Angels Camp. This was the champ the year I was born:

Bit of jumping frog trivia: the former owners of the current world record holder (Rosie The Ribeter 21’ 5¾") live right around the corner from me.

I’ve passed that one, myself.
