Huh. I didn’t know Oregon was a Rum producing center. 
It’s been a while for me too but my retired ID would get me on. A close family member has worked on the base for decades.
Rutgers University football has been in the news this week due to their embarrassing loss against UMASS in their first game of the season. It reminded me of an interesting marker/memorial. A short walk from the football stadium there is a large rock with a plaque. The plaque commemorates the first official July 4th celebration. In 1777 there were some spontaneous celebrations on July 4th. In 1778 George Washington was staying at a house close to where the football stadium is today. The Continental Army was camped along both sides of the Raritan River. He ordered a parade, cannonades and extra rum for the troops to celebrate July 4th.
Speaking of Rutgers Football I have also seen the marker at the location of the first ever college football game between Rutgers and Princeton. The marker is at the original site in New Brunswick. The field where it was played is now the location of the College Ave Gym. The current football stadium is across the river in Piscataway which was originally made into a football stadium in 1938.
I’ve seen that marker, of course.
Should we also start building clipper ships along the river, too?
