Yes, she was full-blooded German. My sisters and I still thought that saying was hysterically funny.

Remembering something else Gram said reminded me of this thread.

If we proposed some harebrained thing starting with “if” (If you let me use your car…If I could wear your diamond earrings…If you drove me to the mall and waited in the parking lot…) she would say “Yes, and if my grandmother had wheels she’d be a trolley car.”

Once, when my daughter was 4 or 5, I said to her, in my mother’s presence, “Stop doing that or I’ll kick your ass around the corner.” You should have seen the smile on Mom’s face-like dad had come back to Earth.

My grandmother used to threaten to pull out our hair - “I’ll yank ya bal’headed!”

Another gem - “I don’t give two hoots and a good goddamn.”
