Perhaps similar for Duluth International Airport.

> Clow Airport in Bolingbrook, IL calls itself “[Clow International Airport](http://skyvector.com/airport/1C5/Bolingbrook-s-Clow-International-Airport)” as a joke because much of its original staff/pilots were immigrants from various places.

> I started a thread here once asking what would be “international” about a local airstrip and had a lot of suggestions about customs desks or flights from Canada or whatever… no one guessed that you can apparently call your airport whatever in the hell you want.

Funny, because I live very near there and came into the thread to mention it. No doubt the local big-wheel politicians in the area thought it sounded impressive too.

> That would be IAH, or Bush Intercontinental as it’s officially known, and the moniker is reasonably legit as, aside from several long-established routes to Europe and South America, flights have recently been added to to Singapore and Dubai, and there’s a regular oilfield employee charter to Luanda, Angola.

> I’m wondering if there are any other officially-named intercontinental airports. I don’t know of one.

George Bush Intercontinental, as it’s now known but was origianlly known as Houston Intercontinental, got the “intercontinental” term largely to distinguish itself from Houston’s other airport, Hobby, which was commonly referred to (unofficially) as Houston International Airport.

[slightly off topic]
The most bizarre railway station I have seen was a wind shelter in the middle of nowhere named “Baltimore Washington International”

It’s not really off topic: it’s named after the airport, because it’s the closest station to that airport, and there’s a shuttle bus service connecting them.

I know. I wrote “slightly off topic” because it was about the railway stop rather than the airport. What made it funny is I thought it was such a grand name for a rain and wind shelter.
