3.5 hours of the commentators talking about what a difficult pitch this was to score on. Did they have an exorcism at the innings break? India cruising at 71-0 off 11. Though there have been a lot of dog balls, there have also been 14 boundaries. ---

I couldn’t watch the end of the game, but at one point Kohli was on 77 with (I think) 27 required. I wondered if they were going to fart around with getting him his hundred. In the end he was out for 95 with 5 required to win, so he did score 18 of the intervening 22. Were they actually trying to get him to 100? Seems risky. ---

Yeah, they both turned down a couple of singles to give him the chance to get a 6 and clinch the win and the ton. He holed out trying, which is honestly no more than he deserved. ---

I can’t believe that there isn’t more scrutiny with that type of selfish decision. I thought it was pretty risky, with only India’s last 2 legitimate batters still batting. Shouldn’t the goal be to close the game out as risk-free as possible? In the end, I was glad he was caught, and the risk of a collapse at the point was minuscule. ---

During today’s game, they described Pakistan as Afghanistan’s “biggest rival”. Obviously the history is one-sided, but the announcers made it a point to say that beating Pakistan would be Afghanistan’s biggest victory. Is there more to this rivalry than the countries simply being neighbors? I know many Afghan players play in the PSL (along with every other major cricket league), so it can’t be like an India-Pakistan rivalry. ---

It’s like Zimbabwe-South Africa or Ireland-England. Where the “smaller” country’s national team might be considered to be at the level of the first class teams in thd “bigger” country. ---

After 22 matches, I can’t remember any close finishes. I mean a game where the result was in doubt with three overs to go. BBC described yesterday’s match as a thriller, but Afghanistan were nailed on by the 45th over if not sooner. They’ve got to stop letting these weaker teams in. ---

I have to say, as a showcase for ODI cricket it’s a great advert for T20 and Test. There are some WC where I wish I’d sprung for a monthly Sky Cricket subscription but this isn’t one. ---
