It’s Mornington Crescent and I’m afraid we can’t tell you much more than that. It’s an ancient game, its secrets imparted from mother to child, generation to generation. Beginners start with a Fulchester shunting and over the course of many many years build up their knowledge of diagonal sidings and the Wrong Leaf Pass. They must learn the ways of Bartlarty and Corumble before being allowed within 10 feet of the playing area. I myself am a novice, despite an extensive foray into Double-ticket Play. In Britain we don’t have Retirement Villages, we have Centres for Advanced Mornington Crescent. ---

**Francesca** is having a bit of fun and waxing lyrical. **Mornington Crescent** is just a really good game to play in a pub since you don’t need any equipment like a board or pieces. It’s very popular here in the UK. Some of the advanced rules (e.g. crossed Bassingtons following motion North) get a bit complicated, but they generally only apply to very special situations which the beginner can safely ignore. The essentials are easily picked up. I won’t bother listing the rules here because there are so many websites which explain them quite clearly, many with good instructional diagrams showing, for example, good opening moves. [And by the way, knowledge of the Corumble convention is no longer a pre-requisite for gameplay. It was declared non-canonical at the Bruges Summit, 98]. **TwistofFate** are you a Zoromir fan too?! He was fantastic wasn’t he? I often play over the games from the 84 title race - some truly mindblowing stuff there! It was Zoromir I think (or maybe Chattridge?) who first found the elusive second escape from a Squitch played on the Victoria line (without Stumps declared, obviously, or else the problem is trivial). ---

It just shows what you miss being away from the boards for a few weeks (This thread btw, is what I am refering too.) I will be in London the weekend after (31st May) and was there on Monday - I don’t think I’ll be able to make it the 20th as well . . . ☹ Which is a shame. Somebody try and change my mind. Ok, if I could just clarify this… The general idea as I understand it is… 1pm at Waterloo Station (under the giant clock) or later on… 7:30pm at The Silver Cross in Whitehall Is this correct? And do we need to all wear a “red carnation and be talking about the weather in Moscow?” _grins_ 😃 ---
