# internet sites stacking up in xp.

am running xp on a pc. when i surf sites the sites stack up at the bottom of the page, including all the pop ups. is there a way to make that not happen.
when i click off a site, i want it to go away.

There are many popup stoppers available if you google for them.
I’m using popupcop but to tell the truth, I’m not very happy with it, as it sometimes closes windows I don’t want closed. Holding down ctrl or shift doesn’t always work either.
Hopefully there’s a consensus in a good, free, popup blocker.
Your post isn’t exactly clear, but surely you realize you can close each window for good if you click the red X at the top right, or right-click them from the task bar then select “close” (though some sites will open a new popup each time you close one). Windows XP has an option to “group” all instances of Internet Explorer and you can close all of them at once if you wish.

I’m not quite sure what you mean by “stack up”, but I’m assuming that you mean that all Internet Explorer Windows are being bunched up under one sinlge Taskbar window.
What you need to do in that case is:
Right click on the task bar, click properties, and uncheck “Group similar task bar buttons”.

Some people swear by [Avant Browser](http://www.avantbrowser.com/). I don’t. I _like_ IE. However, for the issues you have, that might be the sollution.

Assuming it’s pop-ups, try Mozilla ([http://www.mozilla.org/](http://www.mozilla.org/)); version 1.4 was just released. It’s got lots of features including pop-up blocking, image blocking by site, etc., etc.

As far as pop-up blockers go, I’m really starting to like the one included with [Google Toolbar 2.0](http://toolbar.google.com/index-beta.php). It’s the same Google Toolbar for IE we’ve all grown to know and love, and although the pop-up blocker isn’t perfect, it’s free and works pretty well.
However, I agree with xash that the OP is talking about taskbar grouping.

Go into preferences and uncheck the option labled _Display welcome screen when Pop-Up Stopper Starts_. You may also want to play around with the notification options.

I’m using the free version as well. Right click on the white/grey hand looking thing in your system tray (the pop up stopper icon).
Then select **Preferences**. This is the top most option. Then, select the **Pop-Up Notification** tab. Uncheck **Display pop up bubble next to system clock**. Check **Flash the system tray icon** and **Change the mouse cursor**. Set the slider towards Short. Click Test to see if you like the time that the changed cursor is displayed for. Then click Ok.

The option to disable the logo screen on boot-up is not available in the free version.
From their FAQ:
"How do I disable the Splash Screen in the product?
This option is available in our Professional version, which is available to try free for 30 days from our web site downloads page."

You can get rid of the little poster by buying the software or using a free alternative like Proxomitron.
