I don’t think I feed off of hatred. If this was a board of haters, I don’t think I would have anything to do with it. Is there acrimony and arguing? Yup. Is it filled with hate? No, I don’t think so. Is it full of people who don’t suffer fools gladly? Hell yeah, and good on 'em. Maybe I’m just so used to the “fuck you!” “No, fuck YOU!” that sometimes goes on that I don’t even notice it any more. 😕 I think there are some subjects where Dopers can be dogmatic and closed-minded. There aren’t many, though, and if you feel like going nine rounds with rigourous debaters, you can certainly still discuss them. Don’t come in with both guns blazing on your opinions and expect them to automatically be treated with respect without some kind of basis for them. It kinda makes sense that there would be some degree of like-thinking here; we are a community after all, and the people who are completely different from us probably don’t feel at home here and don’t stay. **Sage Rat** , do you really have a list of thread-shitters? ---

I looked back over Elen’s posts, and I think it was the thread on cathouses that got to her. I know how that feels. People who believe prostitution is just fine aren’t even able to fathom the self-loathing most of these women endure. I have suspicions about why, but oh, well. Bye, kiddo. I think that she’s not entirely understood what this place is like. To me it is like a pub with a wide collection of regulars chewing the fat - some of the conversation is ‘factual’ - some is debate - fights are mutually discouraged - and there are bouncers for those that lose their rag It is easy to mistake a bit of courtesy for consensus ---
