# Introducing Mr. Underfoot the Cat

I am fostering an adult male cat. I didn’t like his original name and he doesn’t seem to mind that I’ve renamed him Mr. Underfoot, so that is what I am calling him. He has a new scratchie pad, a bunch of new toys and a new home to explore.

I love people that will foster! It’s something I’d do myself if I had the room, and I think it’s great.
And yeah, he definitely deserves a ‘Mister’ in his name; Just look at him! heck, pretend it’s a’la Dresden and just call him Mister.

Yup, he’s a Mister, alright. He’s almost a Hitler Cat!
I was cooking something the other day, and my husband’s cat parked herself right behind my feet. I almost stomped right on her paws when I turned around - fool cat! Watch out for feet, would you?

What a handsome boy! What’s his background, or do you know?
I love those cardboard scratchers. They are cheap and all of my fosters seem to love them. The last litter of kittens I had managed to scratch a hole in one in less than a month. I think they must have set up a schedule so that one kitten was always scratching.

Is he named after the cat in Robert A. Heinlein’s _Friday_, or is the similarity just coincidental? Either way it’s appropriate…he looks like a Mr. Underfoot.

Heinlein is responsible for one of my other favourite cat names, too - Chargé d’Affaires. What a perfect name for a cat! Nothing happens in my household that isn’t well-supervised by at least one feline.

This _is_ coincidental, but his name makes me think of “Mr. Underhill,” Frodo Baggins’ alias in LOTR.

**Seldom Seen** , you got it in one. As soon as he finished sniffing around his new house, he flopped down in the middle of the kitchen floor. I immediately thought of Mr. Underfoot from _Friday_ and a name was bestowed.
We had an interesting night. When I went to bed I left my door open so Mr. Underfoot could choose to follow me or not. He didn’t, but at 3am we had a little game of Marco Polo, with him meowing and me meowing back until he found me. He jumped up on the bed, cuddled up for 5 minutes, then went bqck to the living room where I found him on the couch this morning.
His latest living situation was with an elderly woman who has recently been ill and has now moved in with another family member. This left the cat and a dog alone in the house except for brief visits to feed, water and clean the litterbox. (The dog has been fostered in another home) I think he’s been lonely. He’s sleeping next to me while I am surfing the Dope and sipping coffee.
