> The influx of the jumbo-sized shrimp (which look more like a small lobster than the little pink crustaceans you see at the grocery store) has increased 10 times in the last year, according to a report from the U.S. Geological Survey—from 32 in 2010 to 331 in 2011. The shrimp-eating shrimp have been spotted in waters from North Carolina to Texas.

So what’s the problem? They eat up little shrimp and we eat them.
Just a middle man, and more fun for us.

Yeah. I mean, couldn’t we basically wipe them out by fishing the shit out of them?

Yeah, just post lots of recipes along with coupons for butter. Alternately, some hungry cats can assist with disposal.

Protecting the environment has never been so tasty.

(Actually, I’m not personally fond of seafood, but perhaps we could unleash the massed Cajunpower of south Louisiana on the problem.)

According to [USGS](http://nas.er.usgs.gov/queries/factsheet.aspx?SpeciesID=1209) they may be escaped farmed shrimp. Which means they would be very edible as I doubt they were farmed as pets. They are also called Tiger Prawns.

Penaeus monodon? Yeah, they’re food.

But where are the damn Terminology Police? Eating smaller shrimp doesn’t make you a cannibal. If I ate a Capuchin (the monkey, not the monk), people might be disgusted, but I wouldn’t be a cannibal. I don’t doubt that tiger prawns eat smaller tiger prawns, but it’s always common among creatures like that. But the article implies that they’re different species.

We should really be worried about the yellow-skinned [perverted cannibalistic hermaphrodites](http://theoystersgarter.com/2008/03/24/perverted-cannibalistic-hermaphrodites-haunt-the-pacific-northwest/).
