There’s a big whiteboard at my workplace that we use as a calendar. As we get information about projects, the areas on the board begin to fill up, but at the start of the month almost everything is untouched. As I was filling in the dates and getting data from the project leads about their timetables today, I decided to create my own event. Thus, every Friday in May is currently labeled as “Hawaiian Shirt Friday!” in the same neat lettering used to signify days off, paydays, and other events, complete with the manic exclamation point to show that _you should be having fun, dammit._

I’m not going to announce any of this to the coworkers. I want to see how many people start coming in all by themselves having learned that it is the “official” day to wear a Hawaiian shirt.

Good thing _I_ don’t work there. I’d come in on Fridays with a “Hawaiian shirt.” Drawn with Magic Markers on my skin. And nothing else… maybe shoes.
I have a problem with following orders…

At the senior center where I worked, we used to get a monthly list of fun holidays and days to celebrate like Hoodie-Hoo Day and National Pickle Week. I planned several programs around stuff like that. Don’t several posters here really enjoy the Talk Like a Pirate day? Pi day and April 20th are fun to celebrate, too.

Well, there’s a Friday the 13th in June, so why not official-ize [Prehistoric Creatures Day?](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=9205430&postcount=75)

Too bad you missed [National Grammar Day](http://nationalgrammarday.com/). My coworker, a copy editor, made “Part of Speech” cupcakes. The cupcakes were labeled as nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc. She even managed to write “preposition” on one cupcake in teeny, tiny letters. It was impressive. (Yep, we’re all dorks at my office. :D)

I’m a big fan of “Talk Like a Pirate Day,” but I have one uptight coworker who objects to pirate-speak in the office. The rest of us will have to find a way to celebrate around her.
